Oh, what a difference a year makes! Last year at this time we where digging out of a late fall blizzard and bracing ourselves for more snow and record cold. It was weather that demanded we hunker down and read. A year later it’s nothing but clear skies and temperatures in the 60’s. It’s perfect weather for an outdoor project or a walk on the beach. I managed to squeeze both of those into my day yesterday; an audiobook and my dog my constant companions. My amazing and handy brother built me a bench from our grandmother’s old bed frame. Look at all that sun! Note the T-shirt! Later, Kevin (the dog) and I explored a new stretch of beach down at Edgewater and discovered this unusual structure. All the while, I was riveted by Career of Evil, by Robert Galbraith. This third book in the Cormoran Strike series is definitely my favorite. One of my awesome colleagues already entered this title into the Reading Room.

Hello Monday!  I’m still here, Monday.  I’m still here.  This will be my last Latest Additions post for a few months while I take time off for maternity leave.  As much as I enjoy writing up these Monday posts, I’m thoroughly looking forward to the bonding time with my little lady I’ve been growing since January.  I’ve really enjoyed the fact that while pregnant, everyday is ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day,’ and her excitement over all of the books I read to her, not just the children’s books.

While I’m out you’ll be hearing from many of the other Adult Services Librarians here at RRPL about all of the awesome books we are constantly adding to the Reading Room.  Here’s what we have added this week:

Is it possible to be allergic to a day of the week?  I think I’m allergic to Mondays.  It might be that I’m nine months pregnant, but today and last Monday have just been downright tough!  When I arrive to work on Monday morning I’m fine for the first half hour and then BAM!  Cold sweats, increased heart rate, nausea, and foggy thinking.  Last week was so bad I even got in touch with my health care provider, but everything checked out  just fine.  Guess what?! Same thing this week.  I’m going to maintain my personal diagnosis of being allergic to Mondays, and the best treatment is some time with a quality book followed by a nap.

If you too are feeling allergic to Mondays, I suggest you escape the monotony of the start of the week and dive into one of this week’s latest additions to the Reading Room.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  I’m a big fan of the milder temperatures and the crisp light winds.  We are also heading into the season flavored with pumpkin spice everything.  I know not everyone loves the endless options of pumpkin spice everything, but the good news for them is that it is not mandatory to consume it!  I am 100% on team pumpkin spice and have been for a long time.  Heck, I make these Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies year-round.

If you’re anything like me, wrap up in a cozy sweater, curl up with your pumpkin spice coffee, and dive into our most recent additions to the Reading Room.
