This is such great weather! Not for doing stuff outside, but completely fabulous for inside activities -like reading! Yet strangely, I’m still lagging behind in the number of books I want to read vs. the number of books I’ve actually been able to read. Does that mean I want it to rain more? Nope! I wouldn’t mind reading in some beautiful sunshine, would you? Hopefully we’ve had our fill of moisture dropping from the sky -in any and all formats- and we have nothing but blue skies ahead! (At least for a while!) But back to you! Do *you* need any new books to look at, or even perhaps, new books to read?! How about one of these:

Under the Wide and Starry Sky by Nancy Horan
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
City of Darkness and Light by Rhys Bowen
Orange is the New Black bu Piper Kerman
The October List by Jeffery Wilde Deaver

Of course, if none of these appeal? There are plenty more where they came from -here in the *library!!* See you soon!

Uh oh. Tomorrow is April 1st… aka April Fool’s Day… a day I just can’t fully embrace. There’s just something a little mean about the day, you know? I’m sure there are many harmless pranks that are being planned -and will be sprung on the unsuspecting, but generally I don’t love the idea that lots of energy is put into making someone look or feel uncomfortable. (Honestly? I don’t like surprises any day of the year -so it could just be me.) Anyway. I know that I don’t plan to prank anyone and I’m hoping not to be pranked in return! To help stay out of the way all those wild and crazzzyyy kids -how about a new book to read! How about one of these titles newly added to The Reading Room:

Johnny Carson by Henry Bushkin
The Price of Innocence by Lisa Black
Rasputin’s Shadow by Raymond Khoury
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
Bridget Jones, Mad about the Boy by Helen Fielding

Good luck to us all tomorrow -whichever way you’re planning your day!

And maybe you’re looking for books just in case time finally slows down long enough for you to pick up something new? How about one of these:

Thirty Girls by Susan Minot
Sycamore Row by John Grisham
The Bear by Claire Cameron
The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon
Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson

Some of these are on my list of things to read as well… So let’s make it happen! Let’s read!

After today? Only three more full days before we can celebrate saying, “It’s Spring!” I’m pretty excited about it -if you couldn’t tell. In the meantime? Let’s celebrate St. Patrick’s Day -as authentically as possible? I had no idea how off-kilter some of the food traditions seem to have become and was equally interested to learn more about the actual historical origins of the day. I don’t know that I’ll get to it today, but I’m pretty interested in trying out the Irish Brown Soda Bread recipe. Or if you get to it first, and want to drop off a taste or two? I’d be happy to try any of the many options being offered and let you know what I think… I’m so philanthropic that way! And to keep with that very generous vibe? I’m now going to share some titles that have recently been added to The Reading Room! Or could it just be the luck of the Irish on your side? Hmm… I guess you’ll have to decide for yourself:

The Duck Commander Family by Willie and Korie Robertson
Mrs. Lincoln’s Rival by Jennifer Chiaverini
Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend by Katie Finn
Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen
Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Enjoy!

Did you remember to turn your clocks forward? It’s such a tough thing to remember -even though Daylight Saving Time has been around (in some fashion) for a long, long time! Why is it so hard to remember? And then fixing the time on each clock -particularly in the car- makes the process extra painful, why? It’s only twice a year and DST means Spring is that much closer -heck, it’s “spring forward” after all! I’m going to try focusing on the positive… better weather, green grass, and Easter candy are all coming my way! And your way too! To celebrate the joy ahead? This week I’ll actually be changing up the list of books! (Instead of those five titles that got some double lovin’ for the past two Mondays.) See? Already springing forward! Are you ready for this kind of change? Let’s jump in then!

Out to Lunch by Stacey Ballis
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
Avalon by Mindee Arnett
The Humans by Matt Haig
Donnybrook by Bill Frank

Are you curious about next week yet? Will these titles get another shot -or will we forge on again?! Ooo, the anticipation! Enjoy it!

It’s almost Spring! Only two weeks and three days! (But who’s counting?) I’m not delusional. I know it can still be cold and snowy in Spring, but it’ll be a relief to at least be able to say, “It’s Springtime!” In the meantime, I’ll probably …read! What a shock! What are you going to do while you wait? Will you read too? Would you like to read one of the books recently added to The Reading Room? How lucky I have a few to share!

The Kept by James Scott
Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg
Carthage by Joyce Carol Oates
Roomies by Sara Zarr
The Martian by Andy Weir

Do you think that will keep you busy at least until next week? If you finish way too quickly -just stop in or give us a call and we’ll provide you with plenty of options! Enjoy!

After yapping away about the beautiful weather last Monday -and then waking up to a different world on Tuesday morning? I refuse to mention anything about the weather today. Not a word! That leaves the Closing Ceremonies of the Sochi Winter Olympic games or the season finale of Downton Abbey as safe topics. As these were both on television at the same time, and I don’t have recording capabilities at the moment, I’m leaning toward Downton Abbey -which was a fabulous season finale! Stop in -we’ll chat! And while I’m waiting to see you at the Reference Desk, would you like to read something that has recently been added to The Reading Room?

The Kept by James Scott
Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg
Carthage by Joyce Carol Oates
Roomies by Sarah Zarr
The Martian by Andy Weir

We’ll see you soon -for books and chatter!

Hello! to a sunny Monday. I hope those individuals lucky enough to be off in celebration of President’s Day are out and about – enjoying the lack of falling precipitation! And the snow that is already on the ground? So sparkly! I wonder if offering up some titles that have recently been added to The Reading Room would be adding too much joy? Well, let’s try it and see what happens, eh?

The Last Original Wife by Dorothea Benton Frank
The Cold Cold Ground by Adrian McKinty
The Eye of Minds by James Dashner
The Spanish Queen by Carolly Erickson

Four more reasons to think nothing but good thoughts about today! Enjoy!

I’m back! (You remember, right? I went to Philadelphia for ALA Midwinter Conference?) And after three days of discussion, the Notable Books Council came up with “a list of 25  very good, very readable and, at times, very important fiction, nonfiction and poetry books for the adult reader.” I think it’s a pretty good list -please check it out if you get the chance! And why not? Now that the Super Bowl is over, what else is there to do but read? (P.S. Crazy game, no?! My recap: Poor Broncos, Go Seahawks, and Love Bruno Mars!) So you’ve got the list of 2014 Notable Books to keep you busy -but now I’m going to add a couple of books that have recently been added to The Reading Room! Bonanza!

Someone by Alice McDermott
Shadow of the Night by Deborah Harkness
Freud’s Mistress by Jennifer Kaufman and Karen Mack
The Sisters Weiss by Naomi Ragen
Drink, Slay, Love by Sarah Beth Durst
