I know you know it’s hot outside. And so I’ll remind you (or maybe this is news?) that our library has air conditioning, and we aren’t afraid to use it! (Which means: it’s nice an chilly in here!) Plus, we’ve got books and magazines! And we’ve got the Summer Reading program going strong at week #5! Would you like to see what you can win this week? Of course you would, who wouldn’t?

This basket is dual duty; not only does it hold some pretty fantastic prizes, it could also be super useful as a beach bag! When you peek inside this bag you’ll see some easily portable paperbacks, eye shades for summertime napping, and candy too! Are you ready to win? (The very cool RRPL building in front of the basket in *not* part of the prize, sorry!)

Do you need a book to read and enter? How about a book that’s been recently added to The Reading Room?
Timepiece by Myra McEntire
Endlessly by Kiersten White

Don’t forget this little rule:
Reading?
It makes you Cool!

(Yep! That’s a Stacey Original Rhyme!) Enjoy!

I’m not even going to dignify this very hot and humid weather with a thoughtful comment. I’m going to move past the weather and keep on sharin’ the love over Week Four of our Summer Reading extravaganza!

How much do you want to win *this* basket? As much as I do? (I’d say, “Or more?” but that’s unlikely to be true.) This is basket features true stories about people who are bigger than life, who have changed or will change the world in some way. Plus, there’s candy! Good luck everyone!

Today, to honor the non-fiction nature of this basket, I’ll be sharing three non-fiction books that have recently been added to The Reading Room! (How fun is that?!)

Cat Daddy by Jackson Galaxy
Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin by Calvin Trillin
Nothing Daunted by Dorothy Wickenden

But of course, there’s still plenty of fiction to be read as well! If you’d like a personalized suggestion, just send us a Reader’s Request form -and we’ll do the work!

It’s here! It’s finally here! Today is the first day of Rocky River Public Library’s Summer Reading Extravaganza! Or you may want to think of it as the first day you can sign-up, read a book, and enter to win one of our nine most excellent Adult Summer Reading Prize Baskets! How awesome is that? (I’d say pretty awesome!) Are you curious to see the first basket available? We like to think of this as our nod to Hollywood, with the big blockbuster movies, movie star biographies, books to movies, and such… Or you can just think of it as the I Want It! basket.

And in order to win? You have to enter slips of paper with titles of books you’ve recently read… How about selecting something that’s just been added to The Reading Room? Maybe one of these:

The Innocent by David Baldacci
Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cakeby Anna Quindlen
As Dead as it Gets by Katie Alender
Hand Me Down by Melanie Thorne
The Odds by Stewart O’Nan

Plus! We’ve got a special kick-off party tomorrow, Tuesday, June 12th from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Whenever you have a moment, drop in and we’ll have snacks and reading suggestions all ready for you! And this special kick-off party has it’s very own prize basket of goodies! Are you curious to see the kick-off basket?

Enjoy!

Why does it seem like the two shortest days of the week are Saturday and Sunday? Even if it’s my weekend to work, I’d say that remains a pretty true feeling. What about you? Agree or disagree? But the upside of this being Monday? It’s time to share the newest books added to The Reading Room! I hope you’re ready to find something to read, because here come the books:

Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard
The Girl in the Polka Dot Dress by Beryl Bainbridge
A Little Night Magic by Lucy March
Dolled Up for Murder by Jane K. Cleland
Insurgent by Veronica Roth

And I’ve got another video to share this week, but this one *discourages* reading… As in, don’t read that text message while you’re driving! Please?

Have a happy week reading -a book! At home!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!  True, the library is closed today but don’t let that stop you from thinking about what book(s) you might want to read next… And maybe tomorrow, after all the picnics and family gatherings are over, you’d like to continue thinking about the men and women who have served their country so well, both overseas and here in the home. In that case, I’ve used the advanced search feature in The Reading Room to make a list of books that share the theme World War II -Homefront and a list using the term Veterans.

Have a great day!

Are you thinking ahead? Me too! I’m thinking about how there is a loooong weekend coming up -and if I’m not careful, I’ll be consuming my current weight in s’mores! (And then my “current weight” will be much more!) So in an effort to prevent the constant, delicious snacking upon a favorite summertime treat? I’m making a nice long “to do” list, including more than a few books that I’m pretty excited to be reading! Would you like a few new titles to add to your reading list? Fabulous! Here they come:

This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers
Blankets by Craig Thompson
A Teeny Bit of Trouble by Michael Lee West
Jane Vows Vengeance by Michael Thomas Ford
Overseas by Beatriz Williams
11/22/63 by Stephen King

Woo-eee! What a wide-ranging list! I’m pretty sure there’s something in there for everyone… So, please enjoy the books *and*the upcoming holiday weekend!
