Latest Additions

This week the Latest Additions will have a more old-school, traditional vibe.. I’m gonna give you a short list of titles that have been newly added to The Reading Room by my esteemed co-workers!

Breathe by Sarah Crossan
Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon
Care of Wooden Floors by Will Wiles
Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson
Wife 22 by Melanie Gideon

And then next week? Everyone is sharing their very own Top Ten of 2012 list of books! It won’ t be just books that were published in this past year or one particular genre or anything… We can pick any book, for any reason, that we read some time over the past twelve months and it stood out as a gem to us. I know seeing what everyone puts on their Top Ten list (here and throughout the literary world) is one of my favorite things -every year! I hope you enjoy next week as much as I do!

Here it comes! Thanksgiving is mere days away and I -for one- am planning ahead this year! I’m eating extra at every meal -and snacking extra!- in the effort of making room now for a nice big slice of pumpkin pie! I’m also adding just a few more books onto my “to be read” pile, just in case the turkey makes be more alert instead of sleepy! (Hey! you just never know what might happen…!) If you want to try either of these ideas too? I don’t mind at all… But maybe you need some ideas of extra titles for you TBR pile? How about these timely treats:

A Catered Thanksgiving by Isis Crawford
The Ghost at the Table by Suzanne Berne
The Ghost in the Polka Dot Bikini by Sue Ann Jaffarian
Mayflower by Nathan Philbrick
A Quilter’s Holiday by Jennifer Chiaverini
Snipe Hunt by Sarah Shaber

All of these books? Thanksgiving is in the story! Have a wonderfully tasty day my friends!

Woosh! Time is flying by! I could swear Halloween was yesterday… right? And now Thanksgiving is just around the corner but the stores are playing Christmas music? Adding to the space/time continuum confusion in my mind- the springlike weather of the weekend! Who? What? When?… My solution to these troubles? I’m going to read! Maybe you’d like to read one of these while munching on leftover Halloween candy?

The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving by Johathan Evison
Island of Bones by Imogen Robertson
The Wilder Life by Wendy McClure
A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin

Have a great week! (Just take it nice and slow maybe?)

Latest Additions -special charitable giving edition

Well. Now that most of us are happily on the other side of Superstorm  Sandy, I can honestly say, “I had no idea.” Did you? I mean really. Living in Cleveland, who could have guessed that a hurricane would reach this far and do so much damage? But how lucky we were in comparison to the many living in cities and towns along the  East Coast. So I’m thinking today, I’m going to share links to the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Best Friends Animal Society, The Humane Society of the United States, or ASCPA if you’d like to make a donation in the relief effort. Each of these groups is providing a way to donate specifically to assisting in the wake of the storm -so you’ll want to make sure you choose that link- or you might just want to offer general support to one of these organizations. But it never hurts to be an informed giver! Check out Charity Navigator and/or GuideStar to research any or all of these non-profit groups so you can be assured your money is being used wisely.

In the meantime? Stop in and let us know how you’re doing… Okay? Okay!
