Laughing Together

One of the things I miss from when my children were little is reading time. Our schedules were not so frantic and we would take time to read throughout the day. Now 12 and 9, they still love to be read to, but it’s difficult to find as much time or to find books that they both will like. Funny books like the Fudge books by Judy Blume have been big hits (Fudge and his mizing of money!). We also recently enjoyed both Penderwick books by Jeanne Birdsall, which are sweetly funny stories about a family of girls and their father. Another recent laugh aloud was Lois Lowry’s ridiculously dark The Willoughbys. Also, have you ever read Wempires by Daniel Pinkwater? It’s a sort of Jewish take on the vampire tradition and it never fails to have us all in hysterics. So readers, do you have any suggestions for bedtime reading that will make us howl with laughter?
