So many advertisers and self-help gurus turn the New Year into an opportunity to make us all feel guilty about our lives and I am the first to admit that I am not immune to these siren calls. Would I like to improve a few things? Sure! And using the New Year as a starting point, a clean slate, is a very useful tool. But all that pressure can make us feel even worse and even backslide. Let’s not let that happen people! Let’s make this a journey, not a race.

One trip to the library and you can find a wealth of information to guide you on any journey you’d like to begin. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

Waking Up in Winter : In Search of What Really Matters at Midlife by Cheryl Richardson

Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics by Dan Harris

The Mindful Way to a Good Night’s Sleep by Tzivia Gover

Big Potential: How Transforming the Pursuit of Success Raises Our Achievement, Happiness, and Well-Being by Shawn Achor

Every Body Yoga : Let Go of Fear, Get on the Mat, Love Your Body by Jessamyn Stanley

Tribe of Mentors : Short Life Advice from the Best in the World by Timothy Ferriss
