imagesStating the obvious, I know, but Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday, is right around the corner and I can’t wait! It’s such a simple, lovely holiday – the joining of family and friends together eating a delicious meal; there are no obligations to buy presents or make the house look like a scene out of a magazine. Oh and the food! I look forward all year to squash soup, green beans and bacon, red cabbage and apples, stuffing and cranberry sauce – delicious! Wishing you all a Very Happy Thanksgiving!

If you have some free time this week, how about watching a couple of Thanksgiving movies? One of my favorites is Home for the Holidays with Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr. and Anne Bancroft. Not a movie full of holiday cheer, but a quirky, funny movie about a dysfunctional family who clearly love one another. Another comedy is Planes, Trains and Automobiles with the late, great John Candy. Pieces of April with Katie Holmes and Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters also revolve around the Thanksgiving holiday.

If you are not going shopping on Black Friday,  please join us for our “Lunch and a Movie” program! We are showing Man of Steel at noon in the Auditorium. There’ll be popcorn and lemonade – feel free to bring a bag lunch to much on during the show.

On to new releases for today:

Red 2DVD and Blu-Ray: the elite group of retired CIA operatives are back tracking down a missing portable nuclear device in this action comedy.
R.I.P.D.DVD and Blu-Ray: well, this movie came and went quickly and poor Ryan Reynolds has another flop on his hands. This one is about two cops who are dispatched by the Rest In Peace Department (R.I.P.D.) to protect and serve the living from increasingly destructive spirits hiding among the unsuspecting Earth.
GetawayDVD and Blu-Ray: the odd combination of Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez star in this action thriller about a former race-car driver who is pitted against the clock when his wife is kidnapped by a mysterious villain.
The Canyons DVD: Lindsey Lohan returns in this erotic thriller directed by Paul Schrader.
Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me DVD: a documentary about the 70’s rock band Big Star.
Red Obsession DVD: a documentary about the demand for Bordeaux in China.
How Sherlock Changed the World – DVD: a documentary about the impact and legacy of the most famous crime fighter in history.
Murdoch Mysteries, Season 6 DVD
Breaking Bad, the Final Season DVD

Happy Watching and Happy Thanksgiving!
