I’m exhausted! My weekend was jam-packed with “quality time” at a variety of animal clinics, shared out amongst a variety of professional animal caregivers, and none of it was just for fun… My cat, Lucy, started the weekend with a what could have been a semi-emergency hairball (sorry! if that’s over-sharing?) and we added on her annual vaccine shots since we were there and things looked okay. The next day, Sunday, we took a jaunt over to the animal ER so someone could diagnose Lucy’s sudden imitation of a wet noodle. Today she’s much better -thank goodness!- but it’s not quite over as we’ll be headed back to her regular vet for geriatric blood work and an official asthma diagnosis! Phew! Now aren’t you exhausted too? So on this Monday, actually for the entire week!, I’m hoping for a nice, calm start to the Rocky River school year, a chance to read the book Library Journal sent for a review, and maybe less drama from my four-footed friend! Doesn’t that sound swell?

You know what else sounds pretty swell? The I Love My Librarian award! This award is jointly given out by the American Library Association, the Carnegie Corporation of New York and The New York Times and here is their explanation of the award:

“There are nearly 123,000 libraries nationwide, and librarians touch the lives of the people they serve every day.  The award encourages library users like you to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional public, school, college, community college, or university librarians.  We want to hear how you think your librarian is improving the lives of the people in your school, campus or community. Up to ten winners will be selected this year and receive a $5,000 cash award, a plaque and $500 travel stipend to attend an awards reception in New York hosted by The New York Times.  In addition, a plaque will be given to each award winner’s library.”

Nice! Right? Now you should head off to ilovelibraries.org and get to work! (And no, I’m not providing this information so you’ll nominate me! I’m sure there are many people out there who have been shaped by awesome librarians at some point in their lives but never knew there was such a fabulous way to say thanks!)

In return for your listening to my cat’s sad tale and nominating your favorite librarian, I’ll give you all the gift of titles just added to The Reading Room! Ta-dah!

They’re Watching by Greg Hurwitz
Horns by Joe Hill
House Rules by Jodi Picoult
Innocent by Scott Turow
Kings of the Earth by Jon Clinch
Mr. Peanut by Adam Ross

What are you hoping for from this week?  Maybe time to read one of these books?

— Stacey

ps: If you have an asthmatic cat, feel free to let me know how you keep your pet healthy! Thanks!
