We showed a great film at the Indie Film Fest on Monday: Free Men, a film directed by Ismaël Ferroukhi, about an Algerian immigrant’s transformation from black marketeer to resistance fighter during the Nazi occupation of France. It was a unique look at the role of the Parisian mosque in rescuing many French Jews from the Nazis and, the more I think about it, a call for Freedom (with a capital F) in general. Beautifully filmed, moving, harrowing at times, you can check it out here at the library.
This is not a big DVD release week, but here are the titles released this week:
The Raven: John Cusack stars as Poe in this murder mystery.
Prometheus: a team of explorers journey to space to discover the origins of mankind.
Semper Fi – Always Faithful: after he loses his daughter to a rare form of cancer, a dedicated Marine Corps drill instructor discovers that the Marine Corps covered up a large water contamination incident and fights to expose them.
Shut Up and Play the Hits: a documentary about LCD Soundsystem’s last concert in 2011 at Madison Square Garden.
Bones, Season 7
